The Story of Tattenhoe Traders Trusted Traders Status

I started Tattenhoe Traders 9 years ago as a selling page, it became very successful over night and has grown in strength ever since. I never intended for it to become a business advertising page just purely a safe place to sell local items for free, but we explored that root as our members were keen to show what they had to offer locally, so we allowed recommendations.

Why Trusted Traders

Within a few weeks I started to receive many complaints, some were just horrific leaving people in thousands of pounds of debt and no where to turn to as the ‘recommendation trade’ had no insurance at all and had made such a mess of our members properties or gardens. We needed to come up with something to help people recognise that the traders members were using on TT were “Trusted’ hence why we came up with “Trusted Traders’, anyone can apply to be a trusted trader as long as they pass the strict joining criteria and pay the £50 a year fee (which is 97p a week).

Many do not get through to achieve Trusted Trader status as they don’t have liability insurance or qualifications pertaining to their trade. I have run this site voluntarily for 9 years, whilst raising my family and running my own small business. I also have the help of two other local small business owners Tracy Simpson and Lindsay Carson, who are a god send. We run Tattenhoe Traders voluntarily. We do this for our community and not for any gain to us personally. I personally spend around 20 hours a week keeping Tattenhoe Traders the high standard it is, and the rest of the admin team also spend a lot of time on the site too.

We offer such a great platform to enable our members to be safe in the knowledge that when they pick a trade from our site they have the following: Public Liability Insurance Legally required qualifications pertaining to their trade eg: Gas Safe Number for a Plumber or Fensa for Glazers etc

What Happens To Trusted Traders Fees

We have raised thousands of pounds asking for the ‘Trusted Traders’ to pay for an annual membership and it feels good to give back.

Over the last few years we have supported both national and local charities using the fees we gather from our ‘Trusted Traders’ they pay an annual membership, and have raised thousands of pounds for these charities, and it feels good too give back.

Just some of the incredible charities include:

The Cystic Fibrosis Trust

Alzheimers Society

MK Hospital

Leo Appeal

Hula Rescue

Willen Hospice

White Spire School

Hope for Hollie

Marie Curie

Last year Covid 19 struck, this changed so much for so many, including small businesses and the elderly in care homes. Tattenhoe Traders decided to build a visiting booth at the Bletchley House Care Home in Bletchley, this was an amazing achievement for us during horrific times and we are very proud of that. But most of all was the incredible trades that gave there time and expertise to make our vision a reality, Thank You Grand Union Plumbing & Heating , Bedford Building Plastics Ltd , First Avenue Supplies Ltd , Crazy Faces by Jo and all of our members who bought items from an Amazon Wish list so we could ensure every resident and carer had a Christmas Gift under the tree.

You can still recommend people you know and think are great by helping them by posting on their own Facebook pages or to your own Facebook page to create exposure for them.

Our aim and philosophy is to prevent as much as we can not to be victims to rouge traders who are recommended on our site thinking they are ‘trusted traders’, we also know we have a few door knockers on our site who just keep changing their name when we block them so we were giving no option.

We are lucky in MK that there are many Facebook pages advertising business’s so please do check them out and ask for recomendations if you don’t find them on TT. We hope that the fact that we check our recommended traders have insurances and qualifications annually helps you feel confident in speaking to our Trusted Traders. I hope you continue to enjoy our page, safe in the knowledge we are keeping you as safe as we possibly can.

Kind regards Nicki Woolley Tracy Simpson Lindsay Carson
